Cystatin C, also known as cysteine protease inhibitor C, is a member of the cysteine protease inhibitor superfamily 2. It is a non glycosylated basic protein, which is composed of 120 amino acids. The production rate of cystatin C in vivo is stable with few influencing factors. It is a reliable index to reflect the impairment of early glomerular filtration function. In addition, the changes of cystatin C in blood are of important clinical diagnostic significance for the diagnosis of early diabetes and the observation and treatment of early renal impairment due to hypertension.
